We all understand that composition is the arrangement of the elements that comprise the scene being photographed; however, there are numerous techniques that can be applied when producing a successful composition, plus there are many so-called “rules”, which can aid you in avoiding a less than inspiring and/or static composition (a composition that fails to convey a sense of movement).
Simon will explain the principles behind the techniques and rules used for creative photographic composition, beginning with his own golden rule, which is to keep it simple. He will provide an in-depth description of how they influence a composition and illustrate each with a selection of his own images. He will also discuss why you should always be prepared to break the rules!
In addition, he will discuss the three core skills you need to develop, which will enable you to implement these techniques and rules. First is pre-visualising your composition, so you will be aware of what it is you are looking for in your mind’s eye. Next is to understand the technical aspects of your camera in order that you can record your pre-visualised composition according to your intentions. Finally he will describe how the potential of further enhancements in post-processing can complete the process of transforming your pre-visualised composition into the final image.
Simon will share his extensive knowledge, together with plenty of general hints and tips accrued during his more than 40 years of photographic experience, to enable you to achieve high quality, visually striking and creative photographs consistently.

Participants will also receive a full set of presentation notes together with a recording of the event for their future reference.
Webinar Requirements
A computer, laptop (Mac or Windows), tablet or phone (iOS or Android).
Internet access (Wi-Fi, Ethernet connection preferred).
Speakers or headphones (audio out) to listen to the audio stream.
A webcam or microphone connected to your computer for audio input (optional, if you are using a laptop, tablet or phone these will be built-in).
Even without sharing your video/audio stream, you will still be able to type questions using a chat feature.
You will need to download and install the Zoom application on your computer or laptop, tablet or phone. Detailed instructions will be sent to all attendees well before the event.
